
ITC hails Year of the Ram at Asian New Year Festival
(Jan. 28, 2003)--According to Asian tradition, it's the Year of the Ram a time of good fortune to be spent relaxing and gathering with family and friends.
The Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) marks the occasion Feb. 1 at the 16th Asian New Year Festival. At left, martial arts practitioners demonstrate their skills.
The event opens at 11 a.m. with a Chinese Lion Dance and continues until 5 p.m., offering an exotic blend for visitors of all ages including food, dances from India, Korea, Japan, Hawaii and the Philippines, craft demonstrations and games.
Asian arts, crafts and antiques will also be available for purchase.
Festival admission fees are: $5, adults; $2, children (3-12 years); $3, seniors (65 years or older); $3, military personnel with ID; and free, children 2 years and under and UTSA students and employees with ID.
