UTSA sponsors student debate on honesty Jan. 24
(Jan. 22, 2003)--Members of the Tri-Campus community and the public are invited to hear local college and high school students compete in the Gray Matters Debate "Is Honesty Always the Best Policy?" on Jan. 24 at the 1604 Campus in the University Center Laurel Room.
There will be a reception at 6 p.m., with the debate following at 7 p.m. Sponsors for the event are the UTSA Honors Alliance and the Office of Student Leadership and Cultural Programs.
During the debate, the moderator will pose a question to each contestant. Contestants will have up to seven minutes to present their views. Then the six judges will ask clarifying questions for seven minutes.
There will be separate categories for college and high school students, with the top three students in each category receiving cash prizes and a prize pack. First place winners will be crowned Masters of the Mind.
Debate participants were selected based on 500-750-word essays they submitted explaining their positions on the subject with appropriate supporting citations.
