UTSA community invited to join Martin Luther King Jr. march
(Jan. 10, 2003)--UTSA students, faculty, staff and friends are invited to join in the Martin Luther King Jr. March at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20 to share "A Day On, Not A Day Off."
The San Antonio march, which previously has drawn 30,000 people and is the second largest in the nation, begins at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 3503 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The park is located six blocks east of I-10/Highway 90. UTSA participants will congregate at the park's tennis courts at 9:30 a.m.
Transportation to MLK Park is available from the St. Philip's College parking lots facing MLK Drive (1800 block) from 9 to 10 a.m., and back to St. Philip's from MLK Plaza from noon to 1 p.m.
An organizational meeting for UTSA marchers will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 in Humanities and Social Sciences Building Room 3.02.32 on the 1604 Campus.
The march proceeds west along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive., then north on New Braunfels Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza at Houston Street. Marchers can also join the march along the route; look for the blue UTSA banner.
UTSA participation in the march is sponsored by the UTSA American Studies Program.
