COLFA hosts National Asian Indian Dance Convention

(July 23, 2003)--The UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts hosted the National Asian Indian Dance Convention July 11-20. Rajam Ramamurthy, COLFA Advisory Council member, was a principal organizer of the convention.

A for-credit dance course was held at UTSA prior to the convention. Along with a weeklong schedule of yoga and dance exercise workshops, participants attended panel discussions on dance and diversity and an awards ceremony.

Louis Mendoza, COLFA associate dean, participated in a panel discussion on the promotion of multicultural dances.

The convention included music, a dance exposition and master performances by traditional and folk dance specialists from India and across the U.S. as well as representatives of the San Antonio Arathi School of Indian Dance.

A portion of the proceeds raised from ticket sales for the master performances will benefit student scholarships in the UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts.
