UPDATE: Benefits annual enrollment for UTSA staff
(July 23, 2003)--Several significant changes in state employee health benefit coverage were made by the 78th Legislature, some of which may affect UTSA employees. However, UTSA is making an effort to lessen the impact on employees.
Senate Bill 1370 revises the Texas Insurance Code and imposes a 90-day waiting period (for health coverage only) before group insurance coverage becomes effective.
However, any benefits-eligible employee hired on or after September 1, 2003 at UTSA who elects coverage will be provided coverage from the first day of employment.
Due to rising health care costs and legislative changes, out-of-pocket medical costs will likely increase for many employee coverage options. However, for Fiscal Year 2003-2004, benefits-eligible employees who have an annual salary rate of less than or equal to $50,000 and elect "self and family" coverage will receive a $125 a month supplement.
Those employees who have a salary rate less than or equal to $50,000 and
elect to cover "self and child" or "self and spouse" will
receive a $75 a month supplement. This represents a continuation of a benefit
that UTSA has provided for the past 3 years.
Newly benefits eligible employees hired on or after August 2, 2003 (with the
exception of returning graduate student employees) are not eligible for the
salary differential.
