Junior docents show 'Pioneer Life' at Institute of Texan Cultures

(June 25, 3003)--Junior docents at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) are helping to explain everything you always wanted to know about "Pioneer Life."

The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays through Saturdays until Aug. 9 at the Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) Back 40 in downtown San Antonio. Admission includes admittance to the ITC Exhibit Floor.

Young and older volunteers at "Pioneer Life" demonstrate life on the plains as the pioneers lived it through hands-on activities including corn shucking, scrubbing clothes on a washboard, steer roping and attending a one-room school.

Additionally, participants can see how soldiers endured wool uniforms during a Texas summer.

One of three University of Texas at San Antonio campuses, the ITC is an educational center focusing on Texas history and cultures.

The Exhibit Floor is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m. Admission fees are: $5, adults; $2, children (3-12 years); $3, seniors (65 years or older); $3, military personnel with ID; and free, members, UTSA students and employees and children 2 years and under.

For more information, call (210) 458-2330 or visit the Institute of Texan Cultures Web site.
