Famed Concord Singers to bring festive German music to ITC
(March 5, 2003)--The internationally acclaimed voices of the Concord Singers will fill the Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) with festive German music in a performance at 3:30 p.m. March 18.
The 25-member, all-male chorus group was founded in 1931 and hails from New Ulm, Minn., site of a model planned community founded by German pioneers in the early 19th century.
Their repertoire includes late 18th century German and Austrian "volkslieder" (folk songs) as well as popular German standards.
Dubbed New Ulm's "Ambassadors of Good Will," the Concord Singers have performed throughout the upper-Midwest region of the U. S. and in Europe. They have appeared on radio and television, recorded several albums and are featured performers at Minnesota's annual Festival of Music, Heritagefest and Oktoberfest.
The performance is included with the regular ITC admission charge: adults, $5; seniors 65 years and older, $3; children 3 to 12 years, $2; and military personnel with a valid ID, $3. Admission is free to UTSA students and employees with UTSACard.
The Institute of Texan Cultures, one of three UTSA campuses, is an educational center concerned with the history and diverse cultures of Texas. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., ITC is located in downtown San Antonio.
