Roadrunners win SLC title, Friday declared UTSA Spirit Day
(March 6, 2003)--UTSA President Ricardo Romo has declared Friday, March 7 "Spirit Day" to honor the UTSA women's basketball team for winning first place in the Southland Conference. UTSA students and staff are encouraged to wear their orange-and-blue and congratulate the team.
Additionally, UTSA faculty and staff and their families are invited to two games this Friday, March 7 when the UTSA women's and men's basketball teams host Nicholls State at the Convocation Center.
The women's game will tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. All faculty and staff with UTSA identification will be admitted free to the games, with all additional family members admitted for only $1 each.
Friday will be the final regular season game for both teams, with the women's squad moving into the Southland Conference (SLC) Tournament on March 13 and 15. This should be an historic week for the women's team as they look to secure their first-ever SLC regular season championship. The first-place Roadrunners can secure the championship with a win in either of their final two home games.

The UTSA women's basketball team captured their first Southland Conference regular season title with a 49-38 win over Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners improved their season record to 16-10, 16-3 in conference play. Nikki Hendrix and Katie Sandefur led the team with 13 points while Tanisha Jackson added 11 points in the contest.
The victory gives the Roadrunners a first round bye in next week's Southland Conference Tournament which begins Tuesday in the Convocation Center. The team will be back in action at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13 when they play their first tournament game in the semi-final round.
The Southland Conference Tournament Championship game will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 15 on Fox Sports Net, cable channel 26.
The final regular season game will be Friday night at 6 p.m. in the Convocation Center as the team hosts Nicholl's State.
