



UTSA Development Board members meet with state legislators
(March 27, 2003)--Members of the UTSA Development Board (including Henry Cisneros, Berto Guerra, Paul Serff, Bill Morrow, Larry Norwood, Glenn Biggs, Arthur Emerson and Albert Estrada) joined UTSA President Ricardo Romo at the Capitol on Tuesday, March 25.
The group visited with state leaders including Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Sen. Judith Zaffirini (chair of the Senate Finance Committee), Rep. Jose Menendez (member of the House Appropriations Committee), Rep. Vilma Luna (vice chair of the House Appropriations Committee), staff of Speaker of the House Tom Craddick and staff of Rep. Talmadge Heflin (chair of the House Appropriations Committee).
Development Board members met with the legislators to advocate for maintaining funds for current services including special-item funding for the South Texas Initiative, the UTSA Downtown Campus, the Institute of Texan Cultures and all of UTSA's special items. They also advocated for new funding for the Life Sciences Institute (a joint project of UTSA and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio) and funding for debt retirement of tuition revenue bonds.
