Scholar to speak March 6 on Feminist Rhetorical Project
(March 3, 2003)--Cheryl Glenn, associate professor of English, rhetoric and composition studies at Penn State University, will speak on "Cuentos de silencios abiertos in the Feminist Rhetorical Project" from 3 to 5 p.m. March 6 in the University Center Retama Auditorium on the 1604 Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Glenn, who earned her bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from The Ohio State University, will outline the history of rhetoric, describe the groundbreaking feminist rhetorical work of the last two decades and provide a guide for present and future scholarly projects.
Her research interests include rhetorical histories and theories, composition theory and practice, feminist and gender theories, and medieval and Renaissance literatures.
Glenn wrote the books "Rhetoric Retold: Regendering the Tradition from Antiquity Through the Renaissance," "The St. Martin's Guide to Teaching Writing," "Unspoken: A Rhetoric of Silence" and "Making Sense: A New Rhetorical Reader." She is editor of "Studies in Rhetorics and Feminisms."
Her honors include a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship; a Conference on College Composition and Communication Richard Braddock Outstanding Article award; the Elizabeth P. Ritchie Distinguished Professor Award, Oregon State University; and the Burlington Resources Foundation Faculty Achievement Award for Outstanding Teaching, Oregon State University.
As part of Women's History Month, the lecture is co-sponsored by the UTSA Women's Studies Institute and the College of Liberal and Fine Arts Cultural Studies Lecture Series.
