Painting by UTSA student wins local best-in-show award
(May 29, 2003)--A painting by UTSA student Steven DaLuz recently was awarded "Best in Show" at the Regional Artist Consortium of San Antonio exhibition.
Pictured is "Immersed," an oil/acrylic-on-panel painting, which is on display in San Antonio International Airport Terminal 2 through August. The painting was judged "Best in Show" among more than 100 submissions.
Sponsored by Mayor Ed Garza and the San Antonio City Council, the Regional Artist Consortium (RAC) is a nonprofit organization formed to promote artists and artwork in the South Texas region.
A project in development for the last two years, RAC is currently focused on displaying works at the airport on a two-sided, forty-foot display wall located in Terminal 2 at the top of the ramp near the rotunda. Funds are being raised for two additional art display areas in Terminal 1.
The displays provide exposure for area artists and the opportunity to sell their works. Artists who submit free-standing, three-dimensional pieces or framed paintings, prints or photography retain seventy-five percent of the sales price, with twenty-five percent of the proceeds covering RAC expenses.
The art is displayed up to ninety days or until sold, and may be displayed for an additional ninety-day period in another area.
