Biotechnology building groundbreaking set for May 28
(May 13, 2003)--The groundbreaking ceremony for the UTSA Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28 at the southeast corner of the Engineering Building on the 1604 Campus.
UT System Chancellor Mark Yudof will join UTSA President Ricardo Romo and other officials at the ceremony marking the beginning of the two-year construction project for the $83.7 million facility. The five-story atrium building will be the largest at UTSA and one of the biggest classroom facilities among the UT System's nine academic institutions.
The facility will house faculty offices and research and instructional labs to accommodate graduate students studying biotechnology, biology, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and chemistry.
The 227,000-square-foot facility was designed by FKP Architects, Inc., Houston, and will be built by J.T. Vaughn Construction, Inc., San Antonio.
