Melissa Thomas graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with her Doctorate in Jurisprudence (J.D. or law degree). Previous to that she graduated from UTSA with her B.A. in Speech Communication and a minor in Legal Studies. Born and raised in Texas, she and her husband live a busy life with two puppies and a fun toddler! She began the Graduate Student Learning Assistance program as the Program Coordinator in January 2006 and has since grown the program to serve over 1000 graduate students each year. She is now the Assistant Director of Learning Assistance and looks forward to many more years of continued growth, both personally and professionally. She was recently elected as President-Elect of our international professional organization, College Reading and Learning Association, and will be serving a three year term starting November 2011.
