ParticipantsThe UTSA Upward Bound programs serve over 110 ninth through twelfth grade students who have a desire to go to college and are willing to commit themselves to an intensive, year-round college preparation program. Typically, Upward Bound students are very committed to themselves and to the program. Involvement in Upward Bound is intensive and year-round. Students visit with their advisors on a weekly basis, attend about two Saturday classes per month during the academic year, and participate in a six-week summer residential program. Students are asked to make Upward Bound their first extracurricular priority. Students who are overextended or overly involved in other activities typically do not have the type of commitment or time required to be in Upward Bound. These students are asked to reassess their priorities if they choose to apply to Upward Bound. Instructions for Interested StudentsUTSA Upward Bound is proud to offer service to students in our three target high schools. Students from Jay, Holmes or Southside who have a desire to go to college may be eligible for the program. Students must meet low income (similar to free/reduced lunch criteria) or first generation criteria to be eligible to apply. Students must also demonstrate a need for program service. Recruitment usually takes place each Fall semester and includes classroom presentations, teacher/counselor referrals and student self-interest. If you are interested in applying for the UTSA Upward Bound Programs and meet the above criteria, you are encouraged to apply. |
