This program, funded by a TG Grant for the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters, will provide graduate students access to programs that ensure their success in graduate school.
There are three sub-programs that this grant will provide: Peer Advising, Writing Consultations, and Writing Institutes. The Tomas Rivera Center is collaborating with the
Judith G. Gardner Center for Writing Excellence on the Writing Consultants initiative.
Graduate Writing Consultants
Writing consultants (graduate students trained to consult with students about their writing) will be available to all graduate students this fall and upcoming spring semesters. These consultations will take place at the Tomas Rivera Center, but in collaboration with the Judith G. Gardner Center for Writing Excellence, and Writing Institutes. The utmost care will be taken to make sure that a Consultant is available during regular operating hours. Click below on either the downtown or 1604 campus flyers to find the hours of walk-in availability.
1604 Campus Graduate Writing Assistance
Remember that we can help at all stages of the writing process - from understanding an assignment (what is an annotated bibliography?) to drafting; from revising to APA citation review. Be sure to bring your papers by!
review them with you - so as to build your skills as a writer!
Writing Institutes
Have a large writing project that you are struggling with? Want additional help with that thesis or dissertation? During the week of Spring Break (March 9-12) and the May mini-mester, you can attend a Writing Institute to make solid progress on your paper and your writing skills.
Each day will begin with lessons on good writing, grammar, and revision. Lunch will be provided while disciplinary groups will collaborate. The afternoon is structured writing time, with writing consultations available as needed. This "boot camp" approach has been very successful for many other graduate students across the country and we hope that it helps you too! If you are interested in joining the Writing Institute, please contact Melissa Thomas for the application.
