DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING
The Department of Marketing offers a Bachelor of Business
Administration degree in Marketing, a Bachelor of Business Administration
degree in Marketing with a Tourism Concentration, and a minor in Marketing.
The marketing degree provides students with the theory and methods
used by businesses to develop strategies for designing, pricing, distributing,
and promoting the firm's offerings. Courses present practical treatment
of such topics as marketing strategy, customer demand analysis, market
segmentation, promotion management and international marketing. Graduates
can choose from a wide range of careers including marketing management,
advertising, personal selling, retailing, international marketing
and marketing research.
The tourism concentration provides the opportunity for a comprehensive
business education that can allow students to enter into careers in
the tourism and hospitality industry.
The minor in marketing provides the opportunity for students with
majors in other disciplines to acquire marketing skills for application
within those disciplines. Top
The Department of Marketing offers the opportunity for
certain of its outstanding students to achieve the designation of Honors
in Marketing and provides the opportunity for advanced study under close
faculty mentorship.
Selection for honors designation is based on the student's academic
performance and recommendation by the Department Undergraduate Program
Committee (UPC) in consultation with the Marketing faculty. To be eligible
for the designation, students must have a minimum overall grade point
average of 3.0 at UTSA and a minimum grade point average of 3.5 in their
major at UTSA. To enroll in honors thesis courses and to graduate with
the honors designation, these minimum grade point averages must be maintained.
Students applying for Honors in Marketing are expected to enroll in
the appropriate honors thesis course during their final two semesters.
The completed thesis must be approved by a supervising faculty sponsor
in Marketing and the UPC. Students interested in this program should
contact the UPC through the Department of Marketing office for additional
information. Department Honors can be attained independently of and
