Harvey J. Graff, professor of history; member, doctoral faculty in literacy, language and culture; member, doctoral faculty in English

Topics: History and contemporary condition of cities; education; higher education; literacy and illiteracy; families, women and children; adolescents, youth, children; history, humanities and social sciences (method and theory); social policy and institutions; social structure and population.

A comparative social historian, Graff is known internationally for his books and articles on the history of literacy and the importance of that history to contemporary issues, his contributions to urban history and urban studies, and more recently for his research on the history and present condition of children, adolescents and youth. He was president (1999-2000) of the International Social Science History Association. He was awarded an honorary Ph.D. by the University of Linkoping (Sweden) for his scholarly achievement. His work is translated into a number of languages and has been awarded many fellowships, grants and honors.

Kolleen M. Guy, assistant professor of history, former Fullbright scholar

Topics: Modern European culture, modern French culture (interdependence of systems of production, distribution and consumption), wine history (development of champagne industry 1820-1920, link between wine and creation of national culture).

A social historian, Guy's research focuses on culture in modern Europe, specifically modern France. She is author of When Champagne Became French: Wine and the Making of French National Identity. Her work has generated interest among scholars and readers outside of academic circles interested in serious but accessible works in culinary and wine history.
