UTSA with its dual mission of access and excellence envisions itself to become a premier public research university, generating world-class research, providing access to educational excellence and preparing leaders for a global environment. 

As the second largest institution in the UT System, UTSA is increasingly becoming a university of first choice while it continues to provide access to higher education for students from South Texas and beyond.

2007 HIGHLIGHTS

UTSA ranks third overall in the number of undergraduate degrees awarded to Hispanics in the U.S. according to Hispanic Outlook for Higher Education magazine.

UTSA is experiencing unprecedented growth on its three campuses with more than $250 million in construction projects underway.

BusinessWeek ranked the UTSA College of Business one of the top three part-time M.B.A. programs in the Southwest in its annual business school rankings edition.

Research expenditures have doubled over the past five years and now include major collaborations with the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, the Southwest Research Institute, the military and several commercial partners.

The University acquired a 125-acre parcel of land near the 1604 campus on San Antonio’s northwest side adding approximately 20 percent more space to the 600-acre 1604 campus.

The university created the UTSA Institute for CyberSecurity Reseach with a $3.5 million grant from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and hired founding executive director and world renowned cyber security scholar Ravi S. Sandhu to lead the effort.

UTSA President Ricardo Romo announced the appointment of John Frederick as provost and vice president for academic affairs, the university’s second highest ranking official.
