Dear Friend, Homecoming activities in February brought together alumni, students, faculty and staff for four days of activities that began with “Jazz in the Plaza” at our Downtown Campus and finished with a tailgate party followed by the men’s basketball game at the 1604 Campus. Other sponsored events included a 5K run, a UTSA Family of the Year essay contest, our signature golf cart parade and fireworks display, and the dedication of our $84 million Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building. Over the last 18 months, UTSA recruited 22 science faculty and five engineering faculty in preparation for the opening of the BSE Building. We are delighted to add so many distinguished scholars to our UTSA family. For those of you who were on our campuses for this year's Homecoming events, I hope you enjoyed your time. We are excited about the opening of the new Mexico Center, which will inspire collaboration and communication among UTSA experts and policy makers, scholars and professionals from the United States and Mexico. And finally, as we look forward to spring 2006 Commencement, UTSA will proudly celebrate another milestone. Spring 2006 brings the 10th anniversary of UTSA awarding doctoral degrees. Imagine that! Our first Ph.D. earned was just 10 years ago. And now, we offer doctorates across 18 disciplines. Thanks so much for all of your support, and I look forward to seeing you at our next UTSA event. Ricardo Romo
