The Veterans Certification Office is Moving!
We will be closed June 30th — July 4th. We will reopen Tuesday, July 5th, 8:00 a.m. in our new location on the first floor of the John Peace Library Building – JPL 1.01.14
We will begin accepting fall 2016 paperwork beginning Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
New VA Drop and Withdrawal Policy
Beginning November 15, 2015, the VA will require students using the Post-9/11 GI Bill to provide mitigating circumstances when they withdraw from or drop a course after the drop/add period and receive a non-punitive grade. Acceptable mitigating circumstances must be provided in order to pay benefits for the period of attendance prior to the drop date. If they are not provided and accepted, any benefits paid from the beginning date of the term will be considered an overpayment, and a debt may be established.
For additional information on the new policy, please visit the Department of Veterans Affairs website.
The UTSA Veterans Certification Office proudly serves over 1800 service members, veterans and their families. Our mission is to serve our students in the most effective and efficient way possible so they may achieve their educational goals. We welcome you and thank you for your service and your support of our current and former service members.
What we do for you in the Veterans Certification Office:
- Ensure eligible UTSA students receive their Federal educational benefits
- Send Certification of Enrollment to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on behalf of the student
- Act as a liaison for the UTSA Student Veteran Association (SVA) on campus
We have 4 full-time VA Certifying Officials at both the Main and Downtown campuses to assist you.
Certifying Officials work for UTSA — not the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
UTSA certifies more Veterans & their family members utilizing their educational benefits than any other University in the State of Texas.
VetSuccess on Campus
The VetSuccess on Campus program (view flyer--PDF) is a collaborative effort between The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with the purpose of providing a supportive on-campus environment for student veterans. VA has placed two full-time Vocational Counselors on the UTSA Campus to assist Veterans, active duty military and their eligible family members who attend or plan to attend UTSA.
