Kirsten Gardner is a historian who specializes in social, gender, and medical history. Her first book, Early Detection: Women, Cancer, and Awareness Campaigns in the Twentieth-Century United States ( http://uncpress.unc.edu/books/T-7292.html ), traces the history of cancer education programs for women since the 1900s. She is currently working on the history of diabetes since the discovery of insulin, with a focus on health disparities and medical technology. As an Assistant Professor at UTSA, Gardner teaches courses in Women and Gender Studies, American Studies, and History.
