VIA Transportation Options at UT San Antonio

The University of Texas at San Antonio and VIA partner to provide a variety of convenient options to travel between campuses and around San Antonio. From the VIA U-Pass program to VIA Link Mainland and VIA Link Downtown, Roadrunners can access safe, easy and free transportation.

 Spring Updates

VIA's expanded services make traveling between campuses easier and more convenient than ever. Students, faculty and staff can take advantage of these services, free with their VIA U-Pass.

Enhanced VIA Bus Service

Added routes and expanded service hours make traveling between campuses more convenient and flexible. Updates this spring include:

  • Reduced wait times: pickup and drop-off for bus service between the Main and Downtown campuses is now available every 15 to 20 minutes at both locations.
  • Expanded service hours: 5 a.m.–12:30 a.m.

Big Changes for The Little Runner

The Little Runner service added One Riverwalk Place and the Southwest Campus as official stops. Benefits of this expansion include:

  • A convenient transportation option that seamlessly connects the Downtown Campus, San Pedro I/II, the Southwest Campus and One Riverwalk Place.
  • Expanded parking options. Roadrunners can park at the Downtown Campus and easily travel to the Southwest Campus and One Riverwalk Place.

VIA U-Pass

VIA U-Pass provides free, unlimited bus rides throughout San Antonio. U-Pass is available for free to all current UT San Antonio students, faculty and staff.

To access and use your U-Pass:

  • Download the VIA goMobile+ app. If you do not have a smartphone, contact Campus Services for instructions.
  • Create an account using your UTSA or UTHSCSA email address.
  • Once signed in, your U-Pass will appear within a few minutes and is ready for use.
  • Open your U-Pass in the app and show it to the operator when boarding the bus.

VIA Link is an on-demand ride-sharing program that allows customers to request a VIA Link passenger van for a ride anywhere within the corresponding VIA Link Zone. Service is free for UT San Antonio students, faculty and staff with their U-Pass.

VIAtrans

VIAtrans is a complementary paratransit service, providing shared door-to-door transportation for eligible riders whose disabilities prevent them from using regular fixed-route bus services. Trips are scheduled in advance and offer a safe, reliable and convenient transportation option throughout the service area.

UT San Antonio students, faculty and staff with a valid VIA U-Pass may qualify for this service at no additional cost. Riders must complete an eligibility application and be approved before booking trips. Those interested in taking advantage of VIAtrans should visit the VIAtrans website to review program details, eligibility requirements and application instructions.

Roadrunner Express

The Roadrunner Express (VIA Route 93) provides service between the Main and Downtown campuses. Look for the Roadrunner Express at the Campus Oval bus stop on the Main Campus. Traveling Between Campuses

Traveling between UT San Antonio campuses is easy with VIA. Explore options, including bus routes and travel times, below.

To travel from the Main Campus to the Downtown Campus, use VIA’s Roadrunner Express (Route 93). Board the bus at the Campus Oval on the Main Campus. Disembark at the Downtown Campus – Buena Vista stop. Approximate travel time is 34 minutes.

To travel from the Downtown Campus to the Main Campus, use VIA’s Roadrunner Express (Route 93). Board the bus at the Downtown Campus – Frio Street bus stop. Disembark at the Campus Oval on the Main Campus. Approximate travel time is 38 minutes.

To travel from the Downtown Campus to the Southwest Campus, use The Little Runner. Look for “The Little Runner Stops Here” signs and book a ride using the VIA goMobile+ app.

To travel from the Southwest Campus to the Downtown Campus, use The Little Runner. Look for “The Little Runner Stops Here” signs and book a ride using the VIA goMobile+ app.

To travel from the Downtown Campus to San Pedro I, use The Little Runner. Look for “The Little Runner Stops Here” signs and book a ride using the VIA goMobile+ app. Approximate travel time is 5 minutes.

From Main Campus

Option 1 - Route through the Downtown Campus

  1. Board VIA's Roadrunner Express (Route 93) at the Campus Oval on the north side of the Main Campus.
  2. Once it reaches the Downtown Campus, continue on VIA Route 17 to the Market and Navarro stop.
  3. Transfer to Route 96 at the Navarro and Villita stop.
  4. Disembark at the Southwest Campus. One Riverwalk Place is a short walk away.

Option 2 - Direct Route to One Riverwalk Place (VIA Route 93)

  1. Board VIA's Roadrunner Express (Route 93) at the Campus Oval on the north side of the Main Campus.
  2. Transfer to Route 3 at Leona & Martin.
  3. Disembark at Navarro & Auditorium Circle. One Riverwalk Place is a short walk away.

Option 3 - Direct Route to One Riverwalk Place (VIA Route 96)

  1. Board VIA Route 96 at the Campus Oval on the north side of the Main Campus.
  2. Disembark at St. Mary's & Martin.
  3. Walk up St. Mary's Street toward Convent Street. One Riverwalk Place is a short walk away.

From Downtown Campus

Use The Little Runner service, with pickup at Lot D1, Dolorosa Lot and San Pedro I. Look for “The Little Runner Stops Here” signs. You can also request a ride from the Downtown Campus to anywhere in the VIA Link Downtown Zone, which includes One Riverwalk Place.

Walking + Biking

One Riverwalk Place is a short, easy walk from the Southwest Campus or a 10-minute bike ride from the Downtown Campus. Bike racks are available at the One Riverwalk Place garage.

From Main Campus

  1. Board VIA Route 501 at the Campus Oval on the north side of the Main Campus.
  2. Disembark at the Medical Drive and Floyd Curl stop. The Health Campus is a short walk away.

From Health Campus

  1. Board VIA Route 501 at the Medical Drive and Floyd Curl stop.
  2. Disembark at the Campus Oval on the north side of the Main Campus. You’ve arrived at the Main Campus.
