Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 K-12 Teacher's Workshop will occur virtually.

Professional Development Workshop on Extreme Environments

August 5–6, 2020

We are extremely pleased to be able to offer a unique professional development opportunity this summer: a two-day virtual workshop to expand content knowledge on Extreme Environments. This is particularly timely as the revised Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) emphasize the need for a more extensive engagement with Earth and Space Sciences.

A National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) funded grant makes it possible for us to invite up to 10 science teachers to virtually join us this summer via the Zoom platform for exciting learning opportunities with Professors Stephen Ackley, Kiran Bhaganagar, Christopher Combs, Alberto Mestas-Nuñez, and Hongjie Xie, renowned experts in the field of Extreme Environments.

Each session will include presentations, demonstrations, and experiences with current technologies used in the field of Extreme Environments. Each teacher will receive two days of experience with current research and access to materials to take to the classroom plus a $300 stipend. You must attend all sessions to receive compensation.

  • Each workshop day begins at 10:00 am.
  • AM sessions are 10:00 am - 12:00 pm; PM sessions are 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.
  • All hosted virtual meeting sessions will open 15 minutes prior to start time and require video/audio capabilities.
