Join Walktober—UT System Physical Activity Challenge

Many BA employees are participating in Walktober, a UT System Physical Activity Challenge. Walkers are helping to deliver the Traveling Trophy to UTSA while earning a drawstring backpack and a UT System Holiday Cookbook.

What is Walktober? 31-day walking challenge designed to inspire everyone to make walking a priority—in October and beyond.

How does it work? Participants will be able to track their steps or minutes, aiming for 6,000-10,000 steps or 30-60 minutes a day. Activity is being tracked via the challenge platform, Walktober mobile app, or using a fitness tracker or wearable.

Who is eligible to participate? It is open and free to all UT System employees, retirees, spouses, and dependents age 18 and above who are covered by the UT SELECT Medical Plan.

Who is participating now from Business Affairs?  Teams from Facilities, PeopleSoft, VPBA, Financial Affairs, and more.

  • Among the Facilities walkers are Mary Alice Kelley, Liliana Gomez, Vanessa Carter and Marlene Rosenboom.
Ramon Rios, Dave Riker, and Roy Garza will also be lacing up and hitting the trails this month.
  • The PSSC team includes Dennis Layman, Paul Sanguinetti, Rene Paniagua, Olga Hernandez and Carlos Gonzales.
  • Heather Foster, Kathryn Funk-Baxter, Christine Laux, Melissa May, and Jackie Ortiz are walking for VPBA.

Financial Affairs Team Challenges All Walktober Competitors

The Financial Affairs team has more than 60 people participating in this year’s Walktober. The Financial Affairs committee members include Carin Norton (Disbursements & Travel Services), Damien Wilkerson (Purchasing & Distribution services), and Maria Zayas (Financial Affairs). The kick-off rally was held October 3, and 44 people attended. Financial Affairs members will be speedwalking through campus at mid-day on Tuesdays and Fridays this month; 21 attended the first organized walk, held October 4.

Weekly walks take place on Tuesdays and Fridays (10/4-11/4)

  • 11:30 & 12:00  NPB walks start at the North Paseo Building on the 1st floor breezeway.
  • 11:45 & 12:15 West Campus walks start from the Barhop Lot Green and Sculpture (yellow) Building.

Walkers are encouraged to follow the designated map route to West Campus.
