Stackable Credentials

Lean Six Sigma training begins with Yellow Belt, followed by Green Belt, Black Belt, and culminiating in Master Black Belt. Each subsequent level of training builds upon the previous, leading to a robust understanding of concepts and implementation practices.

Engineering Faculty-led

All Lean and Six Sigma courses are led by faculty from the UTSA College of Engineering. Lean and Six Sigma instructors are subject matter experts who embed a depth of experiential knowledge, alongside contemporary theory, in their courses.

Lean for All Industries

In additon to Lean Six Sigma courses, we also offer trainings in Lean Leadership, Lean Healthcare, and Office Kaizen. These courses open the door to a ground up approach to Lean transformation and are sutiable to all levels of an organization.

Course Finder

UTSA Lean and Six Sigma courses are open enrollment to the community. Open enrollment courses offer the opportunity for community members to learn from subject matter experts and network with fellow practitioners.

Lean Six Sigma - Yellow Belt

This course is offered as a way for individuals with no prior experience to pursue a Lean Six Sigma Certification. Individuals who successfully complete the course will be able to help conduct Six Sigma projects for an organization to pursue operational improvement in order to provide the best services.

Lean Six Sigma - Green Belt

To successfully obtain this certification, each Green Belt trainee must work independently on a company project, following definition, analysis, proposal for improvements and implementation stages with clear demonstration of applying Lean and/or six sigma tools and concepts.

Lean Six Sigma - Black Belt

The program consists of a lecture-based workshop (4-day optional Green Belt refresher and 1-day required lecture) and four months of individual hands-on, on-site project formulation and implementation resulting in significant operational savings and/or enhancement of service quality. Each project is expected to produce an impact of at least $50,000 in savings.

Lean Thinking for Leaders

This course describes leadership behaviors critical to the successful implementation of Lean in any organization - public, private or non-profit, large or small. The course is applicable to all sectors including healthcare, banking, manufacturing, services and general office operations.

Lean Services and Office Kaizen

In this course you will be introduced to basic lean concepts, discussions on how traditional manufacturing concepts apply to service industries and office operations, and eight wastes, lean metrics, and multiple lean tools. This course can benefit both service organizations and manufacturers.
