UTSA Endowed and Named Chairs and Professorships
Thanks to generous benefactors and corporate sponsors, UTSA has created endowed and named chairs, professorships and faculty fellowships as part of its continuing commitment to foster excellence in research and scholarly activity. Holders of these endowed academic positions are dedicated to promoting an intellectual environment that encourages the conduct of scholarship and teaching among their faculty peers. They consist of nationally and internally recognized faculty who are accomplished scholars and have a commitment to improving research and teaching at UTSA. UTSA has more than 85 faculty endowments, a quarter of which are funded at $1 million or more.
An endowed chair is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed on a faculty member. The highest level of performance, and national and international recognition of the performance, are inherent guidelines for appointment of a chair holder.

Endowed faculty fellowships provide temporary support (not to exceed one academic year) to distinguished scholars.

Endowed academic positions are crucial to UTSA’s efforts to recruit and retain highly qualified teachers, researchers, and administrators, and are a hallmark of our continued growth as a Hispanic Serving R1 univeristy.
