Recognition for Active Employees

To acknowledge employees who reach a five year milestone service pins and certificates are distributed during the University Excellence Awards Program each spring. Next ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, April 13, 2017.

Employees who reach the impressive milestones of 20 or more years, are invited to a luncheon with UTSA President Romo.  They will be presented with a service award pin and certificate recognizing their year of service.

Rules for Years of Service Calculation

Years of service awards are calculated based on number of months in the University of Texas System and an employees’ faculty/staff status as of December 31st of the award year.  Awards are given to employees that reach five year milestones.

Faculty
If, on December 31st of the award year, an employee is an active, benefits-eligible faculty, the years of service are calculated as follows:
½ year credit for each Fall and Spring semester performed at UTSA will count towards years of service.

All other months of service performed in the University of Texas System will be calculated as 12 months equals 1 year of service.

Staff

If, on December 31st of the award year, an employee is an active, benefits-eligible staff, the years of service are calculated as follows:
Each month of state service performed in the University of Texas System will count towards years of service.

Multiple Appointments
If, on December 31st of the award year, an employee has both a staff and a faculty appointment, the higher percentage appointment will be used to calculate years of service.

For example, if a faculty member is also an administrator for 20% of the total appointments, that employee will be calculated by faculty guidelines.

If you have a staff member who teaches only 20% of the total appointments, that employee will be calculated by staff guidelines.
