What we can do

UTSA realizes the importance and need for ongoing processing and healing. It is also important for us to recognize and consider our positions and spheres of influence in actively combating injustices and racial inequities. Here are a few upcoming events and initiatives for faculty, staff and students to share, process, heal and become a champion for change.

Community Gathering in Your Area

Let’s continue the conversation. Processing and healing are ongoing and may need to take place within your area. Are you interested in hosting a community gathering, specific to your department or unit? We are here to help you host a virtual community gathering by recommending strategies designed to promote a brave space to come together in community. Please contact Dr. Traci Buckley, traci.guinnbuckley@utsa.edu, for further assistance.

Microaggression Awareness Campaign

The Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Multicultural Student Center for Equity and Justice, along with UTSA faculty and staff, will be hosting microaggressions awareness trainings for all UTSA faculty, staff and departments starting this fall. More information regarding participation and training opportunities will be announced in July.

Champions for Change

Recognizing our individual spheres of influence, the “Champions for Change” program invites those interested in not only talking about change, but also “being the change they wish to see.” This program will provide an evidence-based framework to build your skills around issues surrounding social justice and inequities. “Champions for Change” are people dedicated to empower our community through education, ally-ship and resources needed to make necessary changes in our community. More information is forthcoming.
