Committees and Task Forces

The Inclusive Excellence Advisory Board Committees and Task Forces are designed to lead specific efforts within the inclusive excellence spectrum. Going forward these and additional committees will evolve as projects come to completion and committees morph to tackle new ones based on UTSA needs.


Cultural Intelligence Committee

This committee is charged with sustaining, increasing and unifying the cultural intelligence of the UTSA community through new platforms enabling faculty, staff and students to acquire additional knowledge and tools for engagement. As a first step, this committee will work on the implementation of an online professional development training on diversity, inclusion and managing bias.

Inclusive Excellence Leadership Symposium Committee

This committee will be part of planning the Inclusive Excellence Leadership Symposium. This learning, training, and professional development event will offer sessions tailored for faculty, staff, and students that are designed to equip them with resources and tools to continue advancing the work of equity and inclusion on UT San Antonio’s campus. The dates of this symposium are Feb. 24-26, 2020,

Diversity Awards Committee

This committee will be part of the selection of the winners of the annual diversity awards. In keeping with UTSA Core Values, the President’s Distinguished Diversity Awards (PDDA) are annual awards that bestow the highest level of recognition to individuals or groups for work that helps the UTSA community think about and practice diversity and inclusion in creative and collaborative ways. The awards especially seek to recognize efforts to engage students in cross-cultural activities to demonstrably extend their knowledge of communities different from their own and/or to enhance their multicultural competence for working with diverse communities at UTSA, San Antonio, Texas, and beyond.

Accessibility Committee

The Accessibility Committee advises and assists the Vice President for Inclusive Excellence as well as the Inclusive Excellence Advisory Board, regarding its leadership role in promoting and achieving an accessible university environment. This includes the physical environment as well as the digital/web environment. The Accessibility Committee provides a forum for consultation and collaboration on campus-wide initiatives relative to improving the University’s accessibility for persons with disabilities whether they be staff, students, visitors, or community members.

Campus Climate Survey Committee

This committee will assess and develop strategies to improve UTSA’s campus climate through data collection and monitoring activities. The initial project of this committee will be to develop and implement a comprehensive campus climate survey at UTSA as a vehicle for identifying critical issues and assessing our progress over time. The work of this committee will be done in concert with UTSA’s existing Campus Climate Team, which monitors and facilitates the reporting of bias incidents on campus.

Inclusive Recruitment Committee

In an effort to increase the recruitment of diverse faculty and staff, this committee will explore and recommend new hiring strategies to advance UTSA’s inclusiveness goals. On the faculty side, this committee will work in tandem with the Provost’s Strategic Faculty Hiring Initiative, specifically the Advancing Academic Excellence through Accelerating Faculty Diversity Hiring Program (FDP). On the staff side, they will work with Vice President for Business Affairs Veronica Mendez to coordinate efforts through Human Resources.

Diversity Statement Task Force

This task force will review the draft “Diversity Statement” developed by the past Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board (DIAC), infuse the philosophies of Inclusive Excellence and finalize an “Inclusivity” statement that aligns with the mission of UTSA. This statement will be presented to the Inclusive Excellence Advisory Board (IEAB) for review, ratification and recommendation to senior leadership to serve as the “Inclusivity” statement for UTSA.
