CÉSAR E. CHÁVEZ MARCH FOR JUSTICE
(The 2023 march has passed. Check back here in 2024 for updates about the 2024 march)
For 28 years, the César E. Chávez March for Justice has been a day for our San Antonio community to unite, celebrate, and labor leader and his contributions to farm workers. Equally important, it is a day to never forget the Sí Se Puede Spirit César E. Chávez encouraged us to embrace so that we can overcome the injustices and inequalities our communities face.
Chávez was a labor leader and civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association and later the United Farm Workers (UFW) union. He grew up as Mexican American farm worker, who later fought for worker’s rights, and has become the best-known Mexican American civil rights activist. His community-based, aggressive but nonviolent tactics gained the farm workers' struggle nationwide support. By the late 1970s, UFW helped improve rights for 50,000 field workers in California and Florida.
UTSA is honoring the work of César Chávez with two events: shuttle service to the City of San Antonio's César Chávez March for Justice and a pre-march breakfast hosted by the Westside Community Center.
