Kevin Kjosa, information security operations officer for IT, and Brad Cooper, senior information security analyst for IT, are attending the University of Texas (UT) System INFOSEC Winter 2016 Meeting February 25-26 in Austin, Texas.

INFOSEC is a semi-annual meeting that has been running for 14 years.  It is a gathering of information security officers and professionals from each UT institution.  Each INFOSEC has a robust agenda that includes security topics from a wide-range of security standpoints. Attendees are able to discuss current trends, demo new products, and receive practical advice for their organizations from industry leaders and other security professionals.

"INFOSEC gives UTSA the ability to share best practices with other UT institutions," said Kjosa. "We share ideas on how to keep university data and infrastructure secure in a rapidly changing environment."

A few presentation topics include:

  • new UT security initiatives updates
  • cloud service risk assessments
  • security considerations for higher education
  • system audit updates
  • incident best practices

Attendees are able to demo security monitoring products such as:  Skillport 8.0, Archer 6.0, and Splunk. During moderated roundtable discussions, participants are able to converse about Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies, data loss prevention software, SSN Communication, and much more.
