2022

CONNECT Received Five-Year, $5 Million Renewal Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration

December – The funds will go toward UTSA’s efforts to educate and train the next generation of scientists and engineers, to provide innovative solutions to challenges related to nuclear security, and to bolster the nation’s pipeline of underrepresented students prepared for research careers.

UTSA CONNECT Students Adrian Gonzales and Geronimo Robles Selected as Winners at the Los Alamos National Laboratory 2022 Student Symposium

August – These Roadrunners took 2 of the 3 awards for the Materials Science Division of the LANL Symposium which included work from over 20 student researchers. Adrian Gonzales presented on hydriding reactions of high uranium density fuels that he has worked on while at LANL in collaboration with UTSA. His poster, which competed against 24 Materials Science students, was selected as the winner in his section. Geronimo Robles's work focused on designing oxidation tolerant silicides fuels for ATF applications. His was also selected as a winning poster.


2021

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Awards UTSA $450K for Nuclear Plant Cybersecurity Research

July – Dr. Miltos Alamaniotis will use the grant to develop a nuclear power plant cybersecurity research program at UTSA.

CONNECT Fellow Jonathan Perry is Graduating with a Masters in Computer Science from UTSA

May – Jonathan's research on semantic segmentation has been published in workshops at ICCV and ECCV conferences. He is joining Toyota's AI Lab as a Machine Learning Engineer.


CONNECT URE 2020 Student Jenelle Millison Selected as an Xilinx-MATRIX AI Fellow for 2021

February – Jenelle is part of the inaugural class of Xilinx-MATRIX AI fellows and will be performing AI related research in the lab of a MATRIX core member.
