Dr. Elizabeth Sooby Wood is Leading an $800,000 Department of Energy-Nuclear Energy University Programs Project
Dr. Sooby Wood is collaborating with Dr. Kurt Terrani at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to investigate the oxidation behavior of TRISO particles and a matrix material under a range of atmospheres that incorporate incremental additions of H2O, O2, H2, and CO2 at high temperatures.


Dr. Elizabeth Sooby Wood is the Recipient of a $450,000 Nuclear Regulatory Commission Faculty Development Grant
Dr. Arturo Ayón is the principal investigator and Dr. Sooby Wood's mentor for the award. The purpose of this grant is to expand the capabilities of Dr. Sooby Wood's laboratory, encourage collaboration, and attract high caliber students interested in nuclear materials science.


Dr. Elizabeth Sooby Wood Awarded a $97,769 Industry Subcontract from Westinghouse Electric Company LLC
Dr. Sooby Wood will be synthesizing and testing prototypic nuclear reactor fuel forms. The work is part of a larger campaign lead by the U.S. Department of Energy and industry partners.


Dr. Carlos Monton Awarded NSF Grant to Fabricate and Test 1-Dimensional Systems
The three-year National Science Foundation (NSF) award worth $279,976 will fund the collaborative project with Dr. Ivan Schuller at UC-San Diego

Astronomy for Future STEM Teachers Program Held May 14-25
The two-week program provided new and interesting materials that will be useful to teach students in STEM fields. Participants learned about galaxies, dark matter, exoplanets, telescopes, and the future of astronomy. It included fieldtrips to the McDonald Observatory, the Scobee Education Center, and the Witte Museum.
