Downtown Campus

A Message from the Associate Dean

Welcome to the College of Sciences at the Downtown Campus. We are pleased to provide courses offered in a small class setting to give students an opportunity for greater engagement with faculty. Our faculty is committed to the success of our students and can provide not only an excellent curriculum but also personal guidance for those pursuing a degree in the College of Sciences.

The College of Sciences offers an extraordinary range of opportunities that I encourage you to explore. For those with a background in science and mathematics, there are many research paths to choose from. For many, the completion of a significant research experience qualifies the student to graduate with College Honors. The Rising Researchers program is available for those who would like to learn more about what a research experience is like in order to determine if they wish to pursue research as an undergraduate.

We also offer a similar opportunity for individuals who might be interested in not only getting their undergraduate degree in the sciences, but at the same time receiving a teaching credential entitling them to teach public schools in subjects areas that require both teaching skills and a strong background in math and science. Like Rising Researchers, the UTeachSA program initially only requires a one-hour commitment. I encourage you to contact their respective offices to learn more.

Students are encouraged to consult with the Career Center which offers many services not only in preparation for life after graduation, but also during your undergraduate years. This office will be of value as early as your freshman year; you are encouraged to register to receive their mailings.

We in the College of Sciences encourage you to investigate the many opportunities that UTSA has to offer so that your time with us will be as rewarding as possible and that it will prepare you for a successful and rewarding future. In the event I can be of service, please do not hesitate to call upon me.
