Stem Cells, Neurodegeneration, and Brain Health

The molecular and genetic tools developed over the past 20 years provide a unique opportunity to understand brain pathologies. With the only human stem cell core in the University of Texas system, UTSA scientists are uniquely situated to study human derived neurons from healthy individuals and from patients having different pathologies. Together with other genetic and imaging facilities our researchers are tackling problems in epilepsy, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's diseases.
