  • Include all required documents (essays, transcripts, etc.) with your application.
  • Before applying, review the eligibility requirements to ensure you qualify.
  • Eligibility requirements apply to the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded.
  • Applicants must be full-time students (exceptions may be made for seniors when full-time status is not needed to graduate).
  • For academic classification (FR, SO, JR, SR, MS, PHD) and major, indicate what you will be next Fall.

The Emily Zachry Ansley Endowed Scholarship

Award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $1250 - $1500

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester).
  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences.*
    * Biology/Pre-Biology/Microbiology and Immunology, Chemistry/Pre-Chemistry/Biochemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computer Science/Pre-Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Multidisciplinary Science, or Physics
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Must be a Texas resident and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must demonstrate the need for financial assistance as determined by the University of Texas at San Antonio Office of Student Financial Aid. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file with that office by the application deadline.

Ruth and Dan Bates Scholarship

Award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $5000

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester) or graduate student (at least 9 credit hours each semester).
  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences.*

The College of Sciences Presidential Scholarship

Number and award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $1000

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester) or graduate student (at least 9 credit hours each semester). An exception may be made on a case-by case basis when the student is not required to take the above stated number of semester credit hours to graduate.
  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences.*
    * Biology/Pre-Biology/Microbiology and Immunology, Chemistry/Pre-Chemistry/Biochemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computer Science/Pre-Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Multidisciplinary Science, or Physics
  • Incoming freshman must have a high school cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and a minimum SAT composite score of 1090 (without the writing score) or a minimum ACT composite score of 24.
  • Current undergraduate and graduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).

The Joseph J. Gdovin, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Number and award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $1600 - $2000

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester).
  • Must be a declared major in Biology (or pre-Biology) or other related life sciences at the sophomore level or above.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Recipients must demonstrate recognizable academic merit, as determined by the selection committee.
  • Must demonstrate the need for financial assistance as determined by the University of Texas at San Antonio Office of Student Financial Aid. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file with that office by the application deadline.
  • This scholarship is renewable on a semester by semester basis if all selection criteria are met.

Arcie and Craig Jordan Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship in the Biological Sciences

Number and award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $1250

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester). An exception may be made on a case-by-case when the student is not required to take 12 hours to graduate.
  • Must be a sophomore (minimum of 30 credit hours completed), junior (minimum of 60 credit hours completed), or senior (minimum of 90 credit hours completed).
  • Must be a declared major in Biology, Ecology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or other biological discipline in the College of Sciences
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) in all science and mathematics courses.
  • Must submit a proposal, co-authored by a faculty member (Assistant Professor or higher, Assistant Professor of Practice or higher, or Senior Lecturer or higher) which describes the project of pedagogical revision.
  • This scholarship is automatically renewable at the discretion of the Dean of the College of Sciences.

Kaplan MCAT/DAT Award

Recipient receives free enrollment in a Kaplan MCAT or DAT preparation course.
Estimated value of award: $1500

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 hours and actively pursuing a degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio, or its successor. An exception may be made on a case-by-case basis when the student is not required to take 12 credit hours to graduate.
  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences* at the junior or senior level.
    * Biology/Pre-Biology/Microbiology and Immunology, Chemistry/Pre-Chemistry/Biochemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computer Science/Pre-Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Multidisciplinary Science, or Physics
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale).

The Dr. Harold G. Longbotham Endowed Scholarship

Award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $3500

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester) or graduate student (at least 9 credit hours each semester).
  • Undergraduate applicants must be either a junior (minimum of 60 credit hours completed) or a senior (minimum of 90 credit hours completed).
  • Must be a declared major in Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or Engineering.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale).

The Sam Madrid, Jr. Endowed Scholarship

Award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $2200

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester) or incoming freshman for the fall semester.
  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences.*

  • Must have graduated from a San Antonio area high school.
  • Incoming freshmen must have had at least a B average in high school.
  • Current students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Must demonstrate the need for financial assistance as determined by the University of Texas at San Antonio Office of Student Financial Aid. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file with that office by the application deadline.

The Juan and Epifania Martinez Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences.*

The North Loop 410 Association, Inc. Endowed Scholarship

Award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding and is renewable on a competitive basis if all eligibility criteria are met.
Estimated value of award: $300 - $400

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester).
  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences.*
    * Biology/Pre-Biology/Microbiology and Immunology, Chemistry/Pre-Chemistry/Biochemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computer Science/Pre-Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Multidisciplinary Science, or Physics
  • Must have completed at least 30 semester credit hours.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Must be a Texas resident.

Additional Application Requirements:

  • Two (2) recommendation forms completed by UTSA faculty members of the student’s choice.
  • Written statement about the student’s most distinctive honor (300 words or fewer).

The Bernard P. Sagik Memorial Scholarship

Award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $600 - $700

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester).
  • Must be a declared major in the College of Sciences.*
    * Biology/Pre-Biology/Microbiology and Immunology, Chemistry/Pre-Chemistry/Biochemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Computer Science/Pre-Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Multidisciplinary Science, or Physics
  • Must have successfully completed at least 24 hours of course work at the University of Texas at San Antonio with an overall cumulative grade point average at UTSA of 2.8 or better (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are of the first generation of their family to attend or graduate from an institution of higher education. Within this preference, academic merit and subsequently financial need may also be considered.
  • This scholarship will be renewed on an annual basis for up to four years if all eligibility criteria are met.

  • Written statement describing their background and academic goals.

The Mary Pat and Louis H. Stumberg Endowed Scholarship in Interdisciplinary Studies in Music and the Sciences

Estimated value of award: not to exceed the cost of tuition and fees

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate or graduate students who have a declared major/research focus (or minor) in Music and one of the following disciplines:
    - all disciplines in the College of Sciences
    - all disciplines in the College of Engineering
    - Anthropology
    - Communication
    - Psychology
    - Sociology
    - other social and behavioral science disciplines as may be added in the future

Additional Application Requirements:

  • Brief essay (no less than 200 words) explaining the importance of music in your intellectual and personal life. For graduate students, the essay should include an explanation of your research areas of focus.

The Dr. B. Thyagarajan Endowed Scholarship

Number and award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $1100

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester) or incoming freshman for the fall semester.
  • Must be a declared major in Chemistry, Geology, or Physics at the freshman or sophomore level.
  • Incoming freshmen must have a minimum SAT score of 860 or a minimum ACT score of 18 and rank in the top 50% of their high school graduating class.
  • Current students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.6 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Preference will be given to students who demonstrate the need for financial assistance as determined by the University of Texas at San Antonio Office of Student Financial Aid. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file with that office by the application deadline.

Note:

  • Selected recipients, only, will be required to write a two (2) page essay on the life of either United Farm Workers leader Cesar Chavez or India's freedom movement leader Mahatma Ghandi before the award is finalized.

The USAA Foundation Scholarship

Number and award amount contingent upon availability of scholarship funding.
Estimated value of award: $2500 - $3000

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student (at least 12 credit hours each semester). An exception may be made on a case-by case basis when the student is not required to take the above stated number of semester credit hours to graduate.
