TSI Registration Holds

A student whose scores on the TSI Assessment indicate that he or she has not met the minimum standards set by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in one or more of the three areas of reading, writing, and mathematics will have a TSI hold placed on his or her record and must participate in the UTSA Developmental Education Program.

Students with Texas Success Initiative (TSI) holds are advised and registered for their developmental/co-requisite courses by TSI Programs. TSI programs can be contacted at or 210-458-4498.

Students required to participate in the UTSA Developmental Education Program may not exit the program until they have fulfilled all the requirements of the program and may not drop a developmental activity during the semester. Developmental education activities will not count toward any degree at UTSA.

A student who has not fulfilled all the requirements of the TSI and has not been declared TSI Complete may not enroll in upper division classes at UTSA in a semester if the completion of the enrollment for that semester will result in a total of 60 or more earned semester credit hours for the student.  For the sixty-hour rule, the number of earned semester credit hours includes transfer credit, dual credit, and credit earned by examination, but excludes hours earned by taking developmental courses.

TSI Developmental Education Requirements

Non-exempt students who do not pass a part of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment are required to complete an individualized developmental education program. The program may require enrollment in developmental courses and/or participation in other developmental activities. Students are also barred from taking certain courses until the developmental program in the area of deficiency is completed.
