UTSA Mexico Center is accepting applications for research fellowships
(Nov. 6, 2014) -- The UTSA Mexico Center is now accepting applications from UTSA students and faculty who would benefit from financial assistance to conduct research or field work at universities and research centers in Mexico.
The $3,000 fellowships, funded by the Carlos and Malú Alvarez International Study Fund, can be used for student travel to and in Mexico, food, lodging, and supplies and materials needed to complete a project. Currently enrolled students in any department or discipline at the undergraduate or graduate level are encouraged to apply for an Educational Research Fellowship. Previous recipients of the fellowship are eligible to re-apply.
To encourage teams of faculty and student researchers, the UTSA Mexico Center will supplement each student grant with up to $1,000 for current faculty members who are collaborating with UTSA students on their projects (one faculty member per project). The funds from the Mexico Center for the faculty member supervising the project can be used for faculty travel to Mexico, food, lodging, and supplies and materials needed to complete the project.
The deadline to submit an application to be considered for a Mexico Center Educational Research Fellowship is Dec. 1. Applications should be submitted in Word or PDF format as email attachments to Olivia Lopez at the UTSA Mexico Center. (Download the application form.) An email confirmation will be returned upon receipt of each application, which will be reviewed by the Mexico Center Advisory Board.
Fellowships will be announced in January 2015. The UTSA Mexico Center requests copies of finished work by the spring 2016 semester, a financial report of expenses and a presentation of the research project at a UTSA Mexico Center brown bag lecture.
Note that stand-alone faculty research is not eligible for fellowship support. Additionally, funding is contingent upon travel approval by the UTSA International Oversight Committee.
