Call for volunteers: Institute of Texan Cultures Asian Festival is Feb. 21
(Dec. 5, 2014) -- The UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures needs volunteers for the 28th annual Asian Festival, which is 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21 at the institute. The Year of the Ram celebration will host more than 40 organizations representing countries and cultural groups from across Asia and the Pacific islands.
Volunteers are needed to give directions, provide guest services and fill other vital roles. They are asked to work a three-and-a-half to four-hour shift to receive complimentary admission to the festival.
Volunteers are needed for these positions:
- Gate teams (10-12 volunteers, shifts: 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.-5 p.m.)
- Event setup (10-12 volunteers, shift: 7-10:30 a.m.)
- Event teardown (10-12 volunteers, 5-8:30 p.m.)
- Outdoor information (6-8 volunteers working in pairs, shifts: 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m.)
- Command Center (8-10 volunteers, shifts: 8-11:30 a.m., 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 2-5:30 p.m.)
New volunteers must register online at the Volunteer Information Center.
Groups or companies that would like to volunteer together can call 210-458-2283.
Returning volunteers:
- Log in to the Volunteer Information Center (VIC) using your email address as your ID and your volunteer password.
- Once you’ve logged in, review and select the position and shift for which you would like to volunteer.
- If you forgot your password, click on "forgot password" and a password will be emailed to you. Log in again using your email and assigned password.
- If you do not have an email address on file, call 210-458-2216 or email tffvolunteer@utsa.edu to set up an ID and password.
- To sign up by telephone, call 210-458-2216.
Volunteers must attend one orientation session to pick up credentials and an information packet. The sessions are 6-8 p.m., Jan. 17 or Jan. 19 at the Institute of Texan Cultures auditorium, 801 E. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. If you can't attend, call to schedule an alternate time to pick up your credentials and packet.
