(Jan. 22, 2015) - The UTSA College of Public Policy and the UTSA Policy Studies Center will present a special panel on immigration reform at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 29 in the Buena Vista St. Building Aula Canaria Lecture Hall Room 1.328 on the UTSA Downtown Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The panel will address the recent changes under President Barack Obama's recent Executive Order on the “Deferred Action for Parental Accountability Program” (DAPA). As a result of these recent changes, undocumented immigrant parents have an opportunity to avoid deportation through the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program.

Among the series of immigration executive actions initiated by Obama, the DAPA program would allow undocumented immigrants who are parents of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident son or daughter to request deferred action from deportation and obtain employment authorization, provided that the undocumented immigrants lived in the U.S. since Jan. 1, 2010 and were a parent to a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident born on or before Nov. 20, 2014 -- the same day as the president’s immigration executive action address.

Panelists will provide information on the changes and the impact that these changes will have on current and future undocumented parents of U.S. citizens. A question and answer segment will follow the discussion.

  • Harriett Romo, UTSA professor of Sociology and director of the UTSA Mexico Center.

  • Joseph B. De Mott, De Mott, McChesney, Curtright & Armendariz LLP
  • Rita Valdez, Board of Immigration member, appeals certified advocate and Bolivia licensed attorney
  • Moderator: Olga Kauffman, Executive Commitee of the Reform Immigration for Texas Alliance (RITA
