Green UTSA: RecycleMania competition runs through Mar. 28
(Feb. 5, 2015) -- For the seventh year, UTSA will participate in the national intercollegiate recycling/waste reduction competition, RecycleMania.
Running Jan. 18-Mar. 28, the university's goal is to improve its 2014 rank from 19th place to 15th place out of 256 participating colleges and universities. An additional goal is to increase the university's recycling rate from 55 percent to 60 percent.
Here are a few suggestions on how to help UTSA reach these goals:
- REDUCE/REUSE/RECYCLE – Think before you throw
- BIN IT TO WIN IT - Use a desk side recycling bin for paper, bottles, plastic, cans
- DO YOU EVEN RECYCLE, BRO? - Help others know where and what to recycle
- OFFICE DE-CLUTTER DAY - Clean out your files and cabinets
- RECYCLE ON - Engage students in the process of reducing trash as well as increasing recycled material
- WHEN IN DOUBT, DON’T THROW IT OUT - Notify the UTSA Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management office at 210-458-5808 if you have any bulk items (catalogs, books, etc.) that can be recycled
As part of RecycleMania, UTSA Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management will provide free paper document shredding from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the HUC parking lot, between the HUC and Ximenes Garage.
Before shredding, UTSA employees should refer to the UTSA Records Retention Schedule to learn what documents can and can not be destroyed.
Please contact Anastacio Alvarez at 210-452-7252 for additional information.
