(Feb. 4, 2015) -- The San Antonio Writing Project, housed in the UTSA College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching, will host its ninth annual Teacher Conference from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Frio Street Building Riklin Auditorium (1.406) at the UTSA Downtown Campus.

The conference is free and open to all educators, and will include breakout sessions that focus on journaling in science and math, literature circles, web-based story mapping and helping students discover their creative voice. The event will also feature a special performance of "The Irrefutable Stream" by the North East School of the Arts Creative Writers.

Jerome Harste, author and professor emeritus at Indiana University, will deliver the conference’s keynote address, "What Writers Have to Say to Artists; What Artists Have to Say to Writers." Harste has more than 40 years of experience teaching English and literacy at both the K-12 and higher education levels. He has authored and co-authored several children’s books, including "My Icky Picky Sister" and "It Didn’t Frighten Me!"

Teachers who attend the conference will earn three continuing professional development credit hours from the UTSA Academy for Teacher Excellence.
