President Romo leads university in development of new strategic plan
(March 17, 2015) – UTSA President Ricardo Romo will be seeking input from faculty, staff and students this spring for the development of a strategic plan – UTSA 2020 Blueprint – that will guide the university's progress over the next five years.
The UTSA 2020 Blueprint will build on the accomplishments achieved under the university's existing strategic plan, A Shared Vision UTSA 2016, which focused on national and international recognition for excellence in academics, research and community outreach.
"We have a strong foundation to build on," Romo said. "We have had great success achieving several of our Tier One milestones. This initiative will help us maintain that momentum and identify areas where we need to align resources to keep us moving toward Tier One."
UTSA 2020 Blueprint will align with strategic priorities in six areas:
- Educational Excellence
- Superior Student Experiences
- Strong Community Involvement
- Innovative Research and Discovery
- World-Class Graduate Programs
- Superior Infrastructure
President Romo has asked UTSA's vice presidents to lead strategy teams that will work collaboratively across different university organizations to develop goals and strategic plans for each focus area. Over the next several months, the leadership teams will conduct forums and town hall meetings to seek input from faculty, staff and students for the UTSA 2020 Blueprint.
"I want everyone to feel they are a part of the planning process," Romo said. "We need everyone's best ideas."
The initiative coincides with the UT System Strategic Planning process recently launched by Chancellor William McRaven. UTSA is implementing a similar process to strategically align resources with institutional priorities.
Throughout the strategic plan development process, updates will be shared with the UTSA campus community prior to the presentation of the final UTSA 2020 Blueprint.
