(March 27, 2015) -- The UTSA College of Education and Human Development will host award-winning children’s author Kathi Appelt at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31 in the Main Building Auditorium (0.106) on the UTSA Main Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Appelt’s presentation, “Good Dogs and True Blue Friends – Writing the Stories I Had to Write,” will provide an in depth look into the writing process that led to the development of two of her novels, “The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man” and “The Underneath.”
Appelt is the author of more than 30 children’s books. Her first novel, “The Underneath,” was named a Newbery Honor Book and won the 2009 Pen USA Literary Award for Children’s Literature. The New York Times bestselling book was also a National Book Award Finalist.
Her latest book, “Counting Crows,” was published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers earlier this month. Other books of hers include “Watermelon Day,” “I See the Moon,” “Keeper” and “Kissing Tennessee.”
The UTSA Bookstore will have several of Appelt’s books for sale before the presentation.
The event is sponsored by the College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching.
