(March 18, 2015) -- The Roadrunner Athletic Fund, UTSA Athletics Department's fundraising arm, has unveiled the Student-Athlete Society, an organization with free membership to all former and current UTSA student-athletes.
The Student-Athlete Society will promote a culture of loyalty, enthusiasm and support for UTSA Athletics. All members are encouraged to participate by recruiting fellow teammates to sign up, attending UTSA Athletics events, and/or financially supporting UTSA Athletics via the Roadrunner Athletic Fund.
"The idea behind the Student-Athlete Society is to create a culture of engagement and involvement beyond the playing fields," Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey said. "This membership for both former and current student-athletes creates a unique opportunity to build a connection between the two. The goal is two-fold. First, we want to make contact with our more than 2,200 former student-athletes and invite them to get involved. Second, we would like our current student-athletes to understand what it's like to give back and stay engaged once they graduate."
Currently, UTSA sponsors 17 sports and a spirit program and the more than 350 current student-athletes and spirit squad members already have joined, along with more than 100 former student-athletes.
Becoming a member of the Student-Athlete Society paves the way for former athletes to mentor and connect with current student-athletes and assist in scholarship funding, along with the ability to remain in contact with athletics programs, former coaches and teammates.
Joining the Student-Athlete Society gives members access to Student-Athlete Society apparel, discounted season tickets, invitations to exclusive UTSA Athletics events and the opportunity to network. Members can donate specifically toward any UTSA varsity program and have the option to make a gift to scholarship support or toward a facility project.
To be eligible for a membership, you must be a current or former UTSA student-athlete of any varsity program that is sponsored by UTSA. The application for free membership and listed benefits can be found online at goUTSA.com/StudentAthleteSociety.
