Dear Friends,

Excitement is building at UTSA with commencement just a little over a week away. More than 4,000 of our students will graduate this spring, and I look forward to sharing this special moment with them and their families.

I always feel great pride when our graduates receive their diplomas. As they walk across the stage, they begin a new journey with the knowledge and skills acquired at UTSA. They are ready to change the world.

Our graduates reached this milestone through hard work and determination. Many overcame great challenges to earn their degree.

Take Alyssa Minwell. Blind since the age of three, Alyssa completed her bachelor's degree in entrepreneurship in just three years. Now the honors student plans to make a career of helping others who are visually impaired.

Angelica Tello was the first in her family to attend college. She earned a doctorate degree in counselor education and supervision in the College of Education and Human Development. Now her younger sisters have followed her lead.

While earning his master's degree in social work in the College of Public Policy, Bryce Boddie worked with local special needs students and started a community garden that feeds low income and elderly people. Now he wants to dedicate his life to public service.

Alyssa, Angelica and Bryce join the more than 100,000 UTSA alumni that we have sent into the world. They will improve society, make new discoveries and become leaders in their fields. Our graduates will always be members of a great extended family and a part of UTSA's finest traditions.

Congratulations to all of our graduates!

Go 'Runners!
