Student Leadership Center Roadrunner of the Month: Tracy De Leon

(April 20, 2015) -- The UTSA Student Leadership Center (SLC) has selected student Tracy De Leon as its SLC Roadrunner of the Month. Sally Crouser, senior administrative associate for the UTSA Special Events Center, nominated DeLeon for the award.
A native of San Antonio and graduate of Louis Brandeis High School, DeLeon is currently a senior studying Nutrition and Dietetics in the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD), where she is pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees as a student in COEHD’s Coordinated Program.
De Leon aspires to work closely with the community to improve the overall lifestyle habits of San Antonio citizens after graduation. She was nominated for her academic excellence while at UTSA and her involvement and passion for service as part of the 2014-2015 UTSA Ambassadors Program.
“I have been in the Ambassador Office for nine years, I have not seen a coordinator work as hard as Tracy in all that time,” said Crouser. “Tracy is encouraging in her leadership…and she will always make time for anyone or any situation. Tracy truly deserves this award. The Ambassadors held a 25 year reunion this year and without her leadership skills, it would not have been possible.”
“Leadership is not the label of a position; it doesn’t come from the roles you have had but rather who you are as a person and the dedication to what you are a part of,” said DeLeon. “Leadership is the concept of being not only the strong person looked up to but also the person that will give strength to those who need it to continue pushing forward.”
The SLC Roadrunner of the Month award is sponsored by the SLC to recognize outstanding UTSA student leaders.
To be considered for the award, nominees must:
- Be full-time UTSA undergraduate or graduate students
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher at the time of nomination
- Have demonstrated excellence in leadership above and beyond typical expectations
- Behave in a way that positively impacts the UTSA community
