UTSA’s newest tradition: the lights at the Monuments
(May 9, 2015) --UTSA has its newest tradition: the Lights at the Monuments. The UTSA Monuments at the John Peace Blvd. entrance of the UTSA Main Campus will be lit in a spectacular variety of colors at key times during the academic year and to celebrate special UTSA academic and athletic achievements.
A committee of UTSA student leaders from the Student Government Association (SGA), Rowdy Crew and Honors Alliance spearheaded the effort with UTSA staff to create distinct color combinations that would reflect special moments in the life of the university. The Monuments' lights glow a soft white with blue and orange undertones on standard evenings.
The Monuments, an award-winning architectural element, welcomes everyone to the UTSA Main Campus, highlights the university’s presence in the community and shows that UTSA’s spirit burns brightly. The lighting for the Monuments is comprised of a full-spectrum LED display and can be set to display in a wide array of color combinations – including UTSA orange, blue and white.
Last fall, the UTSA Midnight Light ceremony during UTSA Roadrunner Days served as the inaugural lighting of the monuments. More than 1,500 students joined faculty and staff members, including UTSA President Ricardo Romo, in flipping the switch that turned on the lights.
