Counseling student Stacy Perez Waterman awarded prestigious counseling fellowship
(San Antonio, May 14, 2015) -- The NBCC Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), has selected UTSA student Stacy Perez Waterman to participate in the National Board for Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship Program (NBCC MFP).
Waterman, a UTSA doctoral student in counselor education and supervision, is one of 23 doctoral students who will receive $20,000 in funding from the NBCC MFP.
The funding will support her education and graduate research on underrepresented populations while helping her expand her professional network. Upon graduation, Waterman intends to serve minorities facing challenges related to substance abuse.
The NBCC MFP is made possible by a grant that was awarded to NBCC by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in 2012. The program strengthens the infrastructure that engages diverse individuals in counseling and increases the number of professional counselors providing effective, culturally competent services to underserved populations.
The Foundation will open the next NBCC MFP application period in September.
