(June 25, 2015) -- Two Academic Affairs administrators and members of the provost's staff recently announced their departures from UTSA to assume vice president positions at other universities.

Krisellen Maloney, dean of libraries, is joining Rutgers University, where she will be vice president for information services and university librarian. Maloney will lead the Rutgers University Libraries system, which comprises more than two dozen integrated libraries, centers and reading rooms on the school's campuses in Camden, Newark and New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Maloney joined UTSA in 2009 and led a five-year, multimillion-dollar renovation of the John Peace Library. Collaborating with multiple offices across the university, she oversaw the creation of the Faculty Center to support faculty development; the Learning Commons, a one-stop shop for student academic support; and the Applied Engineering and Technology Library, which is recognized as the nation's first bookless library on a college or university campus. She also bolstered the development of UTSA's Special Collections, which features distinctive research materials documenting the histories and development of San Antonio and South Texas.

Mary Dixson has been tapped to serve as interim dean of libraries until a permanent replacement is named. Dixson joined the UTSA Libraries in 2014 as assistant dean for faculty services.

Kenneth Pierce, vice provost for information technology and chief information officer, has accepted an offer to become vice president for information technology at Texas State University. He will oversee technology resources, instructional technology support, and the university library.

Since joining UTSA in 2009, Pierce has helped secure three Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grants to fund technology initiatives in support of student success, and overseen the development of the Research Data Center, Faculty Instructional Technology Lab and UTSA mobile app. Under his leadership, UTSA has undergone a $1 million wireless network upgrade, as well as a campus-wide classroom technology upgrade.

Bryan Wilson, executive director of infrastructure services and deputy CIO, will serve as interim vice provost for information technology and CIO, also until a permanent replacement is named. Wilson joined the Office of Information Technology in 1999.

"Krisellen and Ken have both contributed tremendously to the university's progress toward being recognized as a Tier One research institution," said John H. Frederick, provost and vice president for academic affairs. "Each led key strategic initiatives to bolster infrastructure, information and support services to benefit our students, faculty and staff. I am immensely grateful to both of them for the vision and innovation they brought to UTSA, and know they will excel in their new roles.

"They have also been transformational leaders in their respective units, and have prepared Mary and Bryan well to assume these interim roles and maintain the excellent level of service we have come to expect from UTSA Libraries and the Office of Information Technology."
